If Alice were fired, what would be unacceptable options for her in a severance agreement?

In this assignment, put yourself in the shoes of Alice Jones, the executive facing possible severance in our case study.

Develop a ZOPA and BATNA position for Alice, based on your review of her biography and the background information in the case study (located in the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric document in the Assignment Guidelines and Rubrics section of the course). As you develop your response, consider the following:

  • If Alice were fired, what would be unacceptable options for her in a severance agreement?
  • What options could Alice offer that could move severance negotiations toward her goal of keeping her position at Netflix?

Then, determine Alice Jones’ best alternative to a negotiated agreement (BATNA), i.e., her “Plan B.” It is important to do this before entering into negotiations to ensure that she does not agree to unfavorable conditions. Questions that can help formulate Alice Jones’ BATNA include:

  • What do you believe are the interests of the other party, i.e., Sharon Slade and Netflix?
  • What actions and alternatives are you prepared to consider if you (Alice Jones) cannot reach a negotiated agreement within your Zone of Possible Agreement?
  • What creative alternatives can be considered based on the interests of the other party (Sharon Slade & Netflix)?
  • What trade-offs on the standard ZOPA exist that could result in a creative, successful agreement?

How I deal with conflict, how I would address quality issues or conflicts regarding coworkers.  I have never appreciated personal questions such as a “what are your hobbies?”  “what do you like to do in your spare time?”

Suppose you just received a phone call about your dream job, and the company would like to invite you to an interview. Conduct initial research about the company and determine what types of things you want to know about the company and/or the job. Plus, what types of things do you want the company to know about you? What types of questions would you like to ask the company, and why? What types of questions do you hope the company asks you, and why? Be sure to use your critical-thinking skills for this discussion.

ANSWER THE ABOVE QUESTION AND THEN REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTIONS AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 150 WORDS EACH)

CLASSMATE’ RESPONSE

Whenever I am recruited by an employer, I immediately research the company for several factors.

a) Employee reviews via sites like Indeed and Glassdoor

b) Company Performance Over Time

c) What type of product the company makes or service they provide

d) Consumer feedback

e) I research the salaries reported for the job I am considering and compare to other jobs in the market

Questions that I ask in an interview are what a typical day in the position looks like.  I ask what the size of the team is and how it is comprised.  I ask what the general operating hours and expectations for attendance are (is it a flexible schedule or a fixed one).  I ask about any benefits available to employees as the result of employment.  Equally important to me, I ask about the company’s relationship to their community and the impact operations have.  I like to be involved with an organization that supports the communities they serve outside of just providing employment.  I also ask questions to decipher what the overall company culture is.  Is it well defined, or in development?

The questions I appreciate most in an interview are those involving giving an example where I performed a specific skill during a particular situation.  How I deal with conflict, how I would address quality issues or conflicts regarding coworkers.  I have never appreciated personal questions such as a “what are your hobbies?”  “what do you like to do in your spare time?”

Presenting me with a general predicament and asking me to tell a story around how I previously accomplished a goal gives an employer a clear picture not only in how I problem solve, but also how that style will conflict or match well with the current team.  It helps me and the hiring manager determine if I do in fact have the skills to perform the job and if not, do I possess at least enough knowledge to develop those skills practically.

Explain what your organization can learn from this mistake and ways to improve communication in the future.

For the Unit V PowerPoint Presentation, you will continue to work on your course project, and you will present on the ways in which your selected organization will reduce errors in communication.

Start by researching your organization, and determine if they have made an error in communication through an advertisement, consumer policy, or verbal actions to employees. If they have, you will explain that error in your presentation. If not, please research another organization that has, and use this as an example of a situation to avoid.

Continuing in your role as the CEO of the organization you chose in the Unit III Assignment (New Energy Drink), create a presentation to give to your employees that explains the communication blunders and your solutions to avoid them in the future.

Include the components listed below in your presentation.

1) If your organization committed a communication blunder, outline the communication error and what went wrong (highlight the shortfalls). If you researched an example, share the example with your organization, and explain what happened and how you can learn from it.

2) Outline your suggested solution(s) to fix the problem and what processes from Chapter 9 in your textbook can be implemented.

3) Explain what your organization can learn from this mistake and ways to improve communication in the future.

4) Support your work with a references slide.

Your completed PowerPoint presentation should include a minimum of seven slides, not counting the title and reference slides. You must reference the textbook at a minimum.
