Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Joseph Campbell (March 26, 1904 – October 30, 1987) was an American Professor of Literature at Sarah Lawrence College who worked in comparative mythology and comparative religion. His magnum opus was The Hero with a Thousand Faces (1949), which traces the journey of the archetypal hero found in world mythologies. Campbell’s understanding of the hero’s journey was largely shaped by Carl Jung’s work on archetypes, and has been adopted by a wide variety of modern writers and artists.

Students will examine the nature of archetypes and the hero’s journey as a common narrative thread woven through Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005). What separates the hero from the villain?
