Note to Tutor:

You could change the source Freckelton Sc, I. (2009). Instructor stated that I cannot use this source because it is from the novel. Do not know if this will help but my college is Rasmussen College if you can find sources from there. Also, the thesis statement needs to change to add in the three elements of fiction, two of the three are Christopher’s struggle, and his struggle as a teenager, the third is also listed below, you could choose one that is easier for you along with a credible source

Instructor Notes

Directions and notes from instructor:

It is imperative to follow the instructions as follow to receive an A on your course project.

Your thesis statement should contain 3 elements of fiction. As I read your statement here, I can tell that you are going to discuss Christopher’s struggles with possible autism, his struggles as a teenager. Those are themes in the novel. You need to add an addition element to fulfill the requirement. You could show how this novel is an example of post-modern fiction or how this novel fits the definition of mystery genre. You could look at setting or point of view and how one of those elements relates to the themes in the novel.  Also, you cannot use the actual novel as a source.

Annotated Bibliography: 5 Resources required. Three must be from our Rasmussen Online Library. No citations may be from Wikipedia or resources like Spark notes, etc. Each reference should be properly formatted per APA, be free of grammatical errors, and have an annotation included that is 5-6 sentences in length in paragraph style under each APA formatted reference.

Grammar, punctuation, and mechanics: Paper should be error-free and correctly formatted per APA rules.

Annotated Bibliography

Blackford, H. (2013). Raw shok and modern method: Child consciousness in flowers for Algernon and the curious incident of the dog in the night-time. Children’s Literature Association Quarterly, 38(3), 284-303.

The article shows the consciousness of a child, who, through his courage, can help the family withstand challenges. The themes are primarily focused on Christopher (Blackford, 2013). A new order of freedom is also used in the article to portray a new order in society, especially with Christopher being able to pull through to fight the perceptions that society has on people with his disorder. Family is a theme that has been used to signify what individuals with this kind of disorder requires. The book by Haddon passes not only the message of literature but also a new set of ideologies. I have used the article as it focuses on environmental conditioning and social challenges that people with these disorders go through.

Freckelton Sc, I. (2009). The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, by M. Haddon.

The play is seen through the eyes of Christopher, who, through a strong mind, tries to defy the perceptions of his disorder. The book appreciates values that, in one way or another, helps Christopher find out who murders the dog (Freckelton, 2009). This resource addresses the issue of the disorders and brings the themes out. It also provides an intuitive understanding of disorders like Asperger’s and autism and how families can be pillars. The resource focus on providing a wholesome experience for families, scholars, and those in the medical field because the issue of disorders is of significance.

Ray, S. J. (2013). Normalcy, Knowledge, and Nature in Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Disability Studies Quarterly, 33(3).

The article develops an analysis of how the family, utmost honesty, and gravity have been used to fight Asperger’s syndrome and encourage the narrator. The society seems to treat Christopher as unusual and strange, something which the family is against in a way (Ray, 2013). Normality, knowledge, and nature have been emphasized in the case of Christopher. He had a lot of tense moments and challenges all around him. With utmost honesty, the article proves how easy it was for Christopher to overcome situations and help to find the murder of the neighbor’s dog (Ray, 2013). Christopher can understand the social constructions surrounding disability, and through this briefness, he can prove otherwise. I have chosen the resource because it provides an in-depth understanding of disability studies based on the struggles of Christopher. The article is also credible because it has been cited by other scholars, which makes it valid to use.

Talley, H. L. (2005). Review Essay: The Curious Incident of Dog in the Night-Time. Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, 34(2), 235-245.

Christopher, the fifteen-year-old with autism, tries to find the murderer of his neighbor’s dog despite the challenges he is experiencing. The mention of family is also a great deal in the article since it is based on this social setting that Christopher can overcome his worries as well as thrive (Talley, 2005). Honesty, trust, truth, and betrayal are seen as values that help Christopher overcome his situation. The article is an excellent resource because it strengthens the themes as well as empowers those with this disorder. The reason I chose this article is that it is peer-reviewed, thus making it credible to use and build on.

William, J. M. (2012). Against the Rhetoric of Sadness: Theory of Mind and the Writing Process in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. PsyArt.

This resource helps provide an overview of the Theory of Mind and how individuals can overcome challenges by leveraging on the support of the family and honesty. How Haddon represents autism and Asperger’s makes it easy for the reader to understand what the problem is and how to deal with it (William, 2012). The Theory of Mind seems to be the framework by which one can overcome their fears, worries, and also face the challenges ahead of them. The entire resource focuses on Christopher and how he can reflect on his Theory of Mind and become an example in society (William, 2012). I chose this resource because it is mainly focused on how much it can contribute to disability studies. Therefore, I believe that it is going to improve and help others understand this kind of disability. Additionally, the article is from a credible source, which makes it valid in providing an understanding of this particular issue at hand.
