SWOT Analysis and Critical Reflection
Learning Objectives
1, 2, 3, & 4
Weighting
25%,
DUE Date
Week 5 (Friday Midnight)
Task Overview
This task requires students to complete a SWOT analysis and a 500 word critical reflection. Across the first four weeks, students will be required to complete a range of tutorial activities that provide an introduction to learning in higher education. At the completion of these tasks students are expected to undertake a SWOT analysis of their learning abilities and to complete a 500 word critical reflection on the outcomes of this analysis.
Your critical reflection has to respond to the following question: Explore two challenges of learning in a higher education setting. Discuss, based on your personal reflections, how you can successfully respond to these challenges.
An electronic copy of the SWOT analysis template has been provided on the course site.
Submission Requirements
The assignment must be submitted electronically through Turn-It-In.
Students will submit the completed SWOT analysis and the 500 word critical reflection for assessment to Turn- it-in.
ALL ASSESSMENTS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO TURN-IT-IN BY MIDNIGHT FRIDAY OF WEEK 5. Assessments submitted after this time will be late and will be penalised.
Drafts
A draft of the SWOT analysis should be presented to the lecturer in class in Week 4.
How is a critical reflection constructed?
In class, some time will be taken to explore approaches to reflection and how you can incorporate the work you have done in the tutorial sessions, other readings and personal experiences to create a reflective piece of writing.
A simple guideline to reflection can be found at: http://www.alia.org.au/sites/default/files/documents/Reflective.Practice.Writing.Guide20130409JB.pdf
REMEMBER: Whilst you are being asked to write a reflective piece, this is not the same as writing in your diary or a journal. It is expected that you will use some ideas from the class tasks, and from the readings you have done, to critique and compare your experience. You should aim to use a minimum of 2 sources/readings to support your personal reflection. Do not get caught simply writing a personal recount, always try to be critical and analytical . You should reference any ideas that you have used from the various sources and a reference list should be included; APA referencing style or IEEE referencing style if you are an Engineering or IT student.
