Proposed Research Plan

This final assignment is designed to help you conceptualize and articulate the basic characteristics of the proposed research plan you have been working on this quarter. In the weeks gone by, you have learned how to logically structure or design a study meant to uncover data that produces a clear-cut answer (or answers) to the research question (or questions). You have also learned how to search the literature, identify your participant pool, and gather and analyze data. However, the study you propose has no meaning or purpose until you write and present a report of the findings to those interested (Neuman, 2012).

By successfully completing this assignment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following EPAs and practice behaviors:

  • EPA 2.1.3: Apply critical thinking to inform and communicate professional judgments.
    • PB 2.1.3.A: Distinguish, appraise, and integrate multiple sources of knowledge, including research- based knowledge, and practice wisdom.
      • Related Assignment Criteria:
        • 2. Analyze the connection of professional literature to a given research question.
  • EPA 2.1.3: Apply critical thinking to inform and communicate professional judgments.
    • PB 2.1.3.B: Analyze models of assessment, prevention, intervention, and evaluation.
      • Related Assignment Criteria:
        • 2. Analyze the connection of professional literature to a given research question.
        • 4. Explain methods of data collection and analysis for a given study.
        • 6. Apply assessment, prevention, intervention, and evaluation to the selected study.
        • 7. Evaluate potential for further study of a given research problem.
  • EPA 2.1.6: Engage in research- informed practice and practice- informed research.
    • PB 2.1.6.A: Use practice experience to inform scientific inquiry.
      • Related Assignment Criteria:
        • 1. Apply evidence-based practice to refine a research problem into a measurable research problem.

        • 7. Evaluate potential for further study of a given research problem.
  • EPA 2.1.6: Engage in research- informed practice and practice-informed research.
    • PB 2.1.6.B: Use research evidence to inform practice.
      • Related Assignment Criteria:

        • 2. Analyze the connection of professional literature to a given research question.
  • EPA 2.1.10: Engage, assess, intervene, and evaluate with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
    • PB 2.1.10(b).A: Collect, organize, and interpret client data.
      • Related Assignment Criteria:
        • 2. Analyze the connection of professional literature to a given research question.
        • 3. Describe primary sources for data collection in a given study.
        • 4. Explain methods of data collection and analysis for a given study.
        • 5. Describe the primary audience for the results of a given study.

        • 7. Evaluate potential for further study of a given research problem.

Assignment Description

In this assignment, you will write a research plan that includes a precise yet succinct discussion about the research problem. Include in your plan a section identifying the research question and sub-questions. Synthesize the information that you read in the articles used for your annotated bibliography, explaining how they have informed you as you plan a study of your own. Identify the potential research participants and justify why you would select them to participate in your proposed study. Discuss the methods you would use in your proposed study—include your methods of data collection and data analysis. Finally, how might you write a final report of your findings, and to whom might you present it? End this assignment with a recap the proposed research design and concluding remarks, focused on recommendations for future study.

Assignment Instructions

For this assignment, be sure to:

  1. Explain the process of refining a research problem into a measurable research question and attendant sub-questions.
  2. Describe the literature that you located for your annotated bibliography and present it in an integrated manner, in narrative form.
    • Summarize and evaluate the content of the articles that you have read.
    • Explain what contributions, if any, they could make to your study.
  3. Describe your primary sources for data collection.
  4. Explain the methods of data collection and analysis for your study.
  5. Apply assessment, prevention, intervention, and evaluation to the selected study.
  6. Describe to whom would you present your findings and in what format.
  7. Summarize the essence of your proposed study and write concluding remarks, focused on recommendations for future study
