Transactional leadership works within set established goals and organizational boundaries, while a transformational approach challenges the status quo and is more future oriented. Transactional leadership emphasis organization, performance evaluation and rewards and is task-and-outcome oriented. Transformational leadership focuses on motivating and engaging followers with a vision of the future. (courses.lumenlearning.com). My current manager uses the transformational leadership style. She has excellent communication skills and she uses this ability to communicate in a way so that every employee in the agency has a very good understanding of what is needed in order to achieve the vision she has for the agency. She has monthly meetings with the unit supervisors. During the meetings we discuss what is currently going on in each unit, what changes are taking place and what needs to be done to keep our government required participation rates at the top of the scales. We take this information back to our individual units so everyone will be aware of what is going on in each unit as it pertains to the overall vision of the agency. She encourages us to think outside of the box and come up with creative ideas that will benefit employees as well as our clients. She encourages teamwork and tells us often what a great job we are doing.
