After reading the assigned poetry chapters for Weeks 5 and 6 in the Backpack Literature textbook (“Reading a Poem,” “Listening to a Voice,” “Words,” “Saying and Suggesting,” “Imagery”, “Figures of Speech,” “Sound,” “Symbol” and “Myth and Narrative”), carefully review the notes on close reading in the Week 6 Modules folder.

In a 300-word analysis, compare and contrast any two poems in the Backpack Literature textbook that treat a similar theme. Let your comparison bring you to an evaluation of the poems. Which is stronger, more satisfying?

After you’ve posted your comparative analysis, write a 50-word response to two of your classmates’ assignments in which you comment on the effectiveness of the author’s evaluation of the two poems based on the evidence (i.e. what is compared and contrasted) presented in the 300-word analysis.
