Describe a behavior that you believe would be a good candidate for use of Differential Reinforcement of Other Behavior (DRO), Differential Reinforcement of Alternative Behavior (DRA) or Differential Reinforcement of Incompatible Behavior (DRI) method of behavior change. Discuss the specifics of how you would use the reinforcement intervention to promote behavior change for the client’s behavior, and why it is considered a consequence intervention. Finally, describe how unintended consequences may arise when using consequence interventions, any ethical, legal, individual, practical and/or social validity considerations that are unique to these approaches to behavior change.

Soon you will be getting started with the unit 3 discussion, applying a differential reinforcement procedure to improve a client’s behavior.  If you need a refresher on consequences, here is a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbusPzk-sY0

You will want to be specific regarding your implementation and rationale for the approach, describing the context and function of the behavior you are addressing to make your intervention meaningful.  Consider possible unintended consequences (e.g., role of the discriminative stimulus).  Make sure to address any practical, ethical, and social validity concerns that are specific to your intervention and the circumstances in which it will be applied.
