Data Collection

To prepare for this Discussion:

• Review Chapter 4 in the course text, Action Research. Pay particular attention to the various data collection methods discussed and consider how these methods are best employed.

• Review the DVD program, “Data Collection and Analysis,” with Dr. Mark Kiselica. Reflect on the importance of community needs assessments when attempting to gain a clearer understanding of issues, problems, or concerns. Also think about the types of data that may be collected for various prevention, intervention, and consultation needs assessments and the methods of collection that may be used.

• Consider two or more data collection methods that you might use to explore the issue, problem, or concern that you are addressing in your Final Project.

• Review the article, “Youth participation in community evaluation research.” Think about the resources required to collect data and conduct a needs assessment.
